After careful deliberation on how to spend my time today; weighing up the options, the pros and cons, taking into account current, past and projected future productivity, and paying careful attension to my continuing education I have decided that the best way to proceed, on this day of all days, is to smoke pot and catch up on my films.
I wanted to get Party Monster but my local rental place doesn't have it. This is peculiar as I have often found Choices to be an almost ideal place to rent, but it seems that a higher-management decision was made not to stock the film, based it would seem on moral considerations. Fair enough, I have read the book and I know what they mean, but I'm also a little disappointed that Choices didn't choose to be a bit more open or have more backbone. Cunts.
NeverTheLess, they do have a 3 for 2 offer on rentals at the moment.
I like to be quite balanced with my viewing, a bit of everything, but I definately lean more towards the extreme/avant guarde/european/independant, most of which overlap at times, so as much as I didn't almost want to get Matrix Revolutions, which I still haven't seen, and a new film with Christina Ricci called Miranda, I skipped past them to the 'world cinema' section.
What did I get? Well, I shall tell you, if you'll just shut the fuck up for a moment.
First up we have Dracula: Pages from a virgin's diary, which looks like it may be beautifully poetic and is discribed by Village Voice as "A Goth's cinematic wet dream"...
Speaking of Gothic Cinematic WetDreams, the Cabinet of dr. Caligari is playing Chapter on the 30th. I plan on attending , dragging James and his ilk along with me.
Caligari is, like, so German Expressionism!
Other goodies include Ichi the killer. Alas, it is the British edit, meaning the REALLY extreme stuff will be cut. I kinda promised myself that I would only watch it uncut but curiousity has gotten the better of me.
And finally we've got the Animatrix, because I still haven't seen all the bits and I'm almost of the opinion that they're better than the films.
And, yes, I am eating popcorn for breakfast.
