hip-hop-huh?

For some reason I have adverts for hiphop stuff at the top of my blog. I can only assume that this is because I have mentioned hiphop in the past quite alot. Do Not Click These Links. You don't know where you might end up.

Actually, I think I saw a link to the Ninja Tunes website up there one time. This is okay to click, cuz Ninja Tunes is an insanely great label with blatantly awesome artists on it.

HipHop and R'n'B, as I'm sure you have noticed, make up the majority of what is considered 'pop' music these days. I'm also sure you've noticed that the majority of it is shit.

Man, how many songs about sex, gang banging, and being a player can you listen to before you kill yourself and others?

You know, gangster rap used to be a real honest expression of living life being black, being an abused minority, broke as fuck, and doing what you needed to do survive in a world that didn't give a fuck about you.

Now it just seems like a conveniant way to sell records.

Did you know Jah Rule comes from a real nice middle class background?

At least after punk got well and truely co-opted (which I'd guess was shortly after Kurt Cobain blew his brains out) the worst we had to deal with was Sum 41 and Blink 182.

(yeah, I know, it's not punk, but don't play the semantics game with me cuz I'll just set you on fire and roast marshmallows off your burning corpse)
