UK recyclable waste being sent to China for processing

"More than a third of the waste paper and plastic collected by British local authorities, supermarkets and businesses for recycling is being sent 8,000 miles to China without any knowledge of the environmental or social costs - and to the complete surprise of most consumers."

See, this is where Capitalism bites itself in it's ass and the charade of consumer Recycling is pushed into the light. Not only have the government failed to set up a scalable locally-based system for dealing with recyclable waste, companies are out-sourcing it cuz they get more money if they do so. Shouldn't the government set up some kind of reimpursment scheme for this? Isn't that what governments do? Oh, my bad, they only do shit like that when it's industry we're talking about, not the enviroment. Kinda shows you how much of a sham the whole thing is really.

On the other hand, it's better that the shit gets recycled then not. Thinking globally, this is still a good thing. You could argue that as long as it's getting recycled who gives a fuck where it goes?

This article also highlights China's growing status as THE NEXT SUPERPOWER. Their infrastructure will in explode any day now and everybody else is gonna be playing catch-up. Not that I'm saying this is a bad thing or anything.

When I refer to the government I try and go out of my way not to mention New Labor. Why? Because I don't really have a political alliegence (although I probably be voting Lib Dems in the next election - Kudos to Tony Blair for getting rid of voter apathy by being a complete and utter dick), and I really don't think, say, the conservatives are any better.
