Naked Lunch released on DVD

Naked Lunch, David Cronenberg's surreal interpretation of William Burroughs' surreal life, as well as the book in question, has been released on DVD by Criteon (region 1 y'all). Interesting features include a 40 minute "making of" documentary featuring Bill himself, as well as 9 audio excerpts with Burroughs narrating pieces of his writing. For yr money you also get a bunch of photographs Ginsberg took of burroughs and some pre-production type stuff from the film.

By the time I saw this film I was already well versed in both Burroughs' and Cronenberg's work. I had read junky, naked lunch, various other pieces, and a couple of biographys by the time I got my hands on a VHS copy of it, and had been watching David Cronenberg's films with avid interest for years. Naked Lunch has become one of my favourite films due almost entirely to the fact that I understand everything in it and get all the jokes, yet it is so completely fucked up. Plus, I have a bit of a Burroughs obsession.

oh yeah, you gotta read this interview with the both of them here (courtesy of hyperreal.org), or I'm gonna come round yr house and steal all yr paperclips.
